Oh! What a WONDERFUL week I’m having, can’t even begin to tell you how totally chuffed I am!! Thanks for the ribbon, the comments and the favourites – and the GREAT score.
This is another set-up which has been on my to-do list for ages, so this challenge gave me a chance to try it out.
Built up my makeshift light-tent, which consists of four upturned wine glasses with a sheet of glass on them and a white piece of cloth draped over the lot.
I printed out 3 sheets of chequered paper on photo paper. Then taped the sheets together for the background. I soon found out that the background pattern didn’t reflect properly in the spoons (I bought two spoons especially for this experiment because my cutlery is pretty scratched and in basic you can’t clone out imperfections). I taped the spoons to the top of glass tumblers to hold them in place.
Anyway, I printed out another sheet and held it over the spoons. That made all the difference – the patterns were great, depending at what angle I held the chequered paper above them.
The biggest problem was holding the paper in one hand and holding the camera in the other (I have one arm like Popeye and the other like Olive Oil ;-)
I did hundreds of photos (even lay a blue transparent under one of the spoons, it also gave an interesting effect).

Irene, every time I see your work Im amazed again!.
after my yellow ribbon was DSQ, Ican't think of good ideas.
this kind of imagination and dedication for perfection, Is realy unik and cool.
you are a roll model for me!
Even with this one, it took me three evenings to get it right, my neck and schoulders were aching with bending over to hold the sheet above the spoons in the darn light-tent at a thousand different angles and the camera was killing my hand and arm holding it up. I swore so many times, I'm sure I'll never get anywhere near heaven... (must have a word with Enzo about that ;-)
Congratulations on another Blue! Your work is so wonderful and I really appreciate your sharing the setup and details of the shot - you have the patience of a saint, even if you have the vocabulary of a sailor! I probably would have given up after the first 50 shots! :-D.
You really are starting to get on my nerves. Only joking - well done on yet another outstanding entry. When you start giving lessons to us mortals I will gladly sign up!
I'm jealous! You are a great photographer & SO creative. I love that you share your setup. Congrats on yet another ribbon! :) Awesome shot, your blue outtake is really neat too!
Irene, I reeeeeeeeeeallly love this one. I'm so in awe at the perfection with which you set these shots up. I was trying to do a set-up shot last night and ended up feeling like the worst snapshot photographer on the planet and gave up :( Sigh. You never miss. Bravo for such mastery.
Mega Congratulations.
Thanks, Sandy. I know the final result seems so smooth and easy but I promise you I can't count the times I've also felt like the worlds worst snapshooter.

I've got some shiny utensils I bought just for the Fork-Side challenge a year ago. I'll have to use them sometime. Thanks for the lengthy description that's gives us insight to amount of work put into it.
Irene you are an inspiration
Your ideas and the supurb way you carry each one out just leaves me in awe
I have ideas but they never seems to work
How much time to you spend on Photography you say you took hundreds You must be a very patient person
Congratulations AGAIN on a wonderful image and your Ribbon
Firstly, thank you so much for sharing your techniques with us; secondly congratulations - again!; thirdly, your enthusiasm and delight on ribboning, as though each new one is your first, is wonderful. Looking forward to seeing many more of your photos gracing the front page before the year is out!
(pressing my automated playback response button) Congrats on yet another Blue Irene!
Now, come join us in capturing the real world around us. There's all sorts of cool stuff out there like water, landscapes, people, colors, natural abstracts stuff, flowers, feathers, oh heck you are hereby limited to photographing cardboard boxes in a pitch dark room.
;)
Irene, you need to participate with more outdoor shots!! It is mandatory This is becoming unfair !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just joking (no seriously I am really joking) CONGRATS !!!! Darn incredible shot! & you had 5 persons giving you 3s - can't believe that could happen.
Was browsing through and just HAD to stop and leave a comment!! This is glorious, wonderful, and downright stunning! Makes me wonder if you sit around all day and look at things up close for long periods of time to see if you can get something interesting out of them or if they just fall into your creative "vision" :) I smell a ribbon. If it doesn't ribbon, it will be a shame. Simply beautiful!
