I definitely wanted to photograph something in a glass bottle for this challenge . Had a look in my husbands side of the bathroom cabinet looking for his bottle of Obsession (Calvin Klein) and found this half full bottle of Boss Number One. I loved the colour of the cologne and the shape of the bottle but I thought (because of the bottle being half full) I would only do some test shots to check out the lighting. If it looked good I would buy a new, full bottle and use that for the challenge shot.
Well, to cut a long story short, the half full bottle looked so good I started looking for ways to accentuate the two halves. I sprayed water drops on the empty half, then on the full half but kept the rest dry. Nothing really worked for me. Then I got so fed up with spraying and drying, I sprayed the sheet of glass the bottle was standing on, turned the bottle on its side and sprayed the bottom (full) half. I liked what I saw, so I also put a drop of orange coloured water on the spray nozzle of the bottle.
I have no idea how this will do. Many voters may not like the full/empty look of it… A worrying week begins…
Post challenge:
Fantastic!! Thanks for the wonderful ribbon!! I was so worried about no one liking the one side empty/one side full look. Instead I got quite a few comments about not liking the image being rotated. When I was post processing, the idea of NOT rotating never occurred to me. I always go with my gut feeling and my gut definitely said “rotate” ;-) Thanks again, you guys.

Great shot! On the side like you did it communicates an invisible force that draws the cologne to whatever is on the side. Just like any other force creates an opposite one, the cologne also pulls the thing on the side to it.
- I would have loved if the thing on the side would have been the naked skin of a beautiful woman. Isn't that what colognes are for? :)
I love the colored spray-tube in the empty side of the bottle.
One small piece of critique: the O of the brand "BOSS" isn't visible enough for me. For an ad-shot like this (used as a real ad) I think that would be better.
I am continually in awe of your photos! And I really appreciate the descriptions that you take the time to write. That way maybe your talent will rub off just a little on us mortals.
Another fantastic set-up shot. The addition of the drop shows your attention to detail. I can't help feeling, however, that it seems to lean to the right. I don't know why, but perhaps I should lay off the beer for a day or two.
Very nifty approach, Irene, and executed to perfection, as always! Should you wish to quit your day job, I suspect you'd be a very sought after commercial photographer.
Thanks, Deb. I wouldn't mind giving it a try if I could afford it. Just a bit worried that, if I did it for a living, I wouldn't have any more ideas...hmmm

Iren, I am sure BOSS company would love to have this shot,
Give it a go and contact them :)
I would buy this perfum just because of the picture :)
Very well done,
YOU CAN'T LOSE EVEN AT 6.8851! What an amazing photographer you are, and if I am not mistaken, you'll get another one in the NUMBERS challenge...Irenechallenge rocks!
The is a great picture, looks just like one I would find in a catalog. I wish that the sprayer was shifted down into the liquid so that it wasn't all by itself.
