I don't expect this to do well at all but I decided that I really liked the result, so what the hey. I anticipate a fairly low average and any comments will probably tell me that there is too much of the same colour. Still, I'm happy with it :)
A summary, in the unlikely event that someone doesn't know the film Labyrinth: this is Jareth the Goblin King (played by David Bowie) who rules over the labyrinth, a maze populated by strange beings, where reality is constantly subject to change. Goblins are his minions and he uses crystals to spy on people and to twist the naive to his will. This was back when it was cool for villains to wear eyeshadow and have glitter in their hair.
I shot my Jareth doll in front of a labyrinth screenshot print-out, his crystal is a bead from a necklace of mine. I ran noise removal and sharpen over the photo, cropped, resized, then desaturated the yellow hue channel somewhat to make it cooler, as he looked kinda jaundiced under my kitchen light.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe the placing I got with this pic! I was so sure it would bomb, I only submitted it because I like it, as a big Labyrinth fan. Wow, I'm speechless, thanks so much everyone!

Congratulations on your high finish and personal best. I think it would have done better with a more realistic looking background. Maybe actually putting the doll in front of the screen rather than printing it out.
"Unlikely event"? Of course I have heard of Labyrinth, but I haven't seen it nor even seen any excerpt that I can recall and knew nothing of the plot. As a David Bowie and Sci-Fi fan I should have and will be looking for it at my video store. It sounds good.
Great idea -- Kudos. Wonderful lighting on the King's head and arm. Flash highights on chest detract. The DOF on the background is nice, although it bit faded -- TV screen maybe?
