I really wanted to do the same thing with pumpkins, but it would have been a lot more work (even if I could have found some little pumpkins), so I decided on apples instead. I realize this is a math challenge (not Pi III), but whatcha gonna do. The apples are sitting on my polished up wood dining table. The numbers are actually carved into the apples and painted with black water color. One AB400 top right, one on the background (the wall).
Shot in RAW: adjusted white balance and exposure
PS:
Crop
Curves
Hue/Sat (to make it more red and saturated)
Dodge/Burn/Clone all over the place
Gaussian blur on the background
Added the vignette
Added some noise to the background
Resize
USM (on all but the background) at 50/.5/0

Thanks a bunch for all the comments and votes, everyone! Woohoo, a blue!

What can I say? You obviously have a good shot here. :)
Some things that work well --
1. The apples are all similar in shape and size. Had they been different or of obviously different shapes, the unity of the shot would not have been as strong and it would not have made the shot as pleasing.
2. The contrast between the red of the background and the green of the apples is wonderful.
3. The obvious care you took with the numbers. Just drawing them on there, or sticking them on with something would have lacked the polished look of this. It adds some dimension, though subtle, and professionalism to the shot.
Why, that's freak'n hilarious.
And an ingenious idea. I always like a play on the double meanings of words. Add a little blue lighting to the top and you got an RGB photo.
Yes, your first blue! Of course this wasn't the most time-consuming shot you've ever done, but it certainly came close. It's great to see you on the front page after watching your score all week. This win was well-deserved and long-overdue. Congratulations, baby!
Congrats, just a sneaking suspicion on my part ... but fate was with you, I think the apples were going to work much better than the tiny pumpkins.
Love it, was one of your 10s. Great average score here.
Again, many congrats.
Wow, excellent shot. You went to a lot of trouble to perfect this (carving the numbers into the apples, flawless composition) and it certainly paid off. Great work and big congrats on the blue, Nathan.
Outstanding idea for this challenge and very well executed! Would love to know how you got the numbers so neat and perfect. I suspect a ribbon for this one.
