I had a nice shot of a purple flower with a warm sun behind it but I knew it would get a very mediocre score. I tried B&W for a color challenge on Yellow //dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=632885 and the comments were so interesting I wanted to try it again. This doesn't exactly scream purple like the yellow banana did but what the heck... it's better to be loved or hated than to just be mediocre.
I predict this will do worse than my banana score that was 4.3. I also predict it will generate some interesting and plentiful comments, which I love-- good or bad. :)

Well, you knew it would do poorly, didn't you? But you really cleaned up on comments. the low averages with lots of fun comments makes for an interesting roller-coaster of a challenge. I gave it an 8, btw.
I'm not sure this meets criteria since it's black and white, I'm assuming the grapes are purple? Shame we can't see the colour, it'd make a great shot.
Hmmmm. Nice OOB thinking on this. But, how do I know they are not green grapes? Gotta give you a good score for both a well done image and making me have to think about it. Hope you don't get killed with DNMC votes, because this deserves to do well.
This is brilliant! I think youre the only one who did this (as far as I've seen) points for suggesting purple and points for having the guts to do this!
I've seen masochists before, but you are taking it to extremes here!
The only trouble I have is do I score you low for not meeting the challenge, or do I score you high for taking a chance?
I'll give you a 5 for now and ponder this.
I pondered it. I just can't in all fairness give this more than a 5. Those grapes could be green, or red for all I know. If I give you a higher score, I have to give everyone else that doesn't have purple in their photo a higher score.
Nice shot, well zoomed in and composed. The only thing is, though I know that some grapes are purple, there is no purple in the actual shot. Don't get me wrong, its incredouble powerful in black and white...but theres no purple! I wont mark it as i dont know how, as if it were purple i would have given it a high score, but I dont want to down mark you as its not. : )

[edited after second look] Reading carefully the submission's detail (Your submission should show or suggest to the viewer the color purple), I have to admit you suggest perfectly the purple color - and your suggested purple is actually better than some colored submissions.

Lighting and detail are nice; you've got a good range to tones here. I see you went with a suggestion of purple instead of a depiction of it. I get it, but I think there are images that more strongly smack me in the face with the idea of purple and are also technically strong.
True, grapes are purple but for this challenge I think people wanted to see true color. I think only purple grapes have this specific texture to them so I hope people wont say well maybe these where green ;) (no vote)
these could be green grapes for all we know.. i think doing completelty b/w in a challenge requiring a colour was maybe a bad idea... just my view on it..
