I really wanted to try and create a photographic fractal and this was as close as I could get it without applying DQable effects. Set up using balls, marbles, beads and "glorb"(aka floam).
Post-processed with PSPXI includes sh/mid/hi adjustment; adjustment layers for hsl, cb and levels.

This is the full colour version for anyone interested.
And the DQ-able special effects version.

Hrmph! How come my favorite image in this challenge scored so low??? You were robbed in my opinion, either that or I have really poor taste.... Anyway I loved this one when I viewed it for judging and still do looking at it a second or third time!
This is just magical, love the image. Not too sure about the correspondence to math, but I love it too much not to rate it highly. Please tell us how you did it in the technical section. I think you floated the little white balls in water, but you tell us what you did.
I have to admit that I went to look this up. I love what you created ehere. Did you use floam? lol This really does look like the diagram that I saw. Is that the sky reflected in the marbles too? Very cool.
not voting but wanted to comment. The image should say Mathematics without ever seeing a title or having to be explained, I'm afraid you, and many others and missed that. Sure once you find out what an Apollonian Gasket is, you may understand the image but then it doesn't speak for itself.
Pros...You've got outstanding detail and sharp focus, I love the colors and subject matter. Overall a really nice image.
I'm probably a bit thick, but I had to Google this to work it out! Certainly fits Wikipedia's description. Nice tones and colour, composition feels a little off. I thing it needs to be more central? Nice effort though!
