I have been a Dentist for almost 30 years. During this time I have seen many changes in technology. The fiber optic handpiece is one of those advances. More recently advances in lasers show promise as one day replacing the air turbine and electric handpieces. Everyday brings new and exciting challenges which benefit the patient both esthetically and functionally.
This picture is a variation of a previous image I created of a dental handpiece.
In this image I was attempting a tooth's eye view. Don't worry, the tooth was anesthetized!

I expected this to do way better. One of two 8s I gave in the challenge.
Congrats on finishing over 6 though. This would look fantastic as an 11x14 behind your receptionist!
Hands down the best photo of a dentist's tool I've ever seen. The color play with the gold/brass and the silver/pewter metal is gorgeous. The only dock I have is the fact that the background has been rendered a bit blocky because of whatever smoothing/blurring you've done, I would guess to combat noise? It looks like similar things I've done with neat-image like programs...
Still, that's a minor quibble really, as the main subject jumps out too much to really dock too much for the background. (although I'd be more inclined to give a 9 if it was smoother)
Just the right amount of detail, the water spraying from the tip really adds to the image. Not sure about the background though, the colour is nice but it seems kind of mottled?
:D If this doesn't do so well, it would be because of the shuddering painful memories that it creates for a lot of people. I think it is a very good image, (painful memories aside), and I wish you luck!
