IMO the composition is kind of cluttered and confusing. My eyes aren't sure were to rest. I think it might help if the man were in a different placing, and not cropped in half. Perhaps place him off to one side of the photo, and have him get a little closer to the camera, and place him at an angle where he is looking at the monument but you can see his face in the picture... Just a thought.
