In CS3: Crop, levels, noise ninja, a little dodge layer on the smoke trails, brightness / contrast, noise ninja again, clone a couple of spots of dirt off the lens (where so much dust comes from I don't know!!), shadow / highlights 3%/2%, increase brightness of blues by 65%, resize, usm, sfw
These are the Red Arrows from Farnborough Air Show on Sunday 20th July, one of the (if not the) best aerobatic display teams in the world. What I like about their displays is they often spit up so there are always aircraft performing whilst other are lining up!
It's cool watching them take of as the go down the runway in formation!
Here are a couple more ...
WOW WOW WOW Not only My first ribbon, but a blue in free study is just awesome! From so many fantastic shots I am very happy :)))
A new personal best by well over a whole point as well as the top photo for the 100-400L lens and 2nd on the 40d page .... .... and to top it off I've got myself a DPC hat on the way :)))) the update button has been well used this week I can tell you :)
Huge thanks for all your votes and comments, this has made my week :D
This is a fabulous picture , I must be honest the reason for me looking at your profile is due to the fact that you have presented me with my 100th comment on my photo's , it could not have been made by a better photographer , thank you for this and thank you for inadvertantly (hope I spelt that correctly)introducing me to your photography.
I loved this in voting, I loved the formation of the planes and the diagonal it created, the position in the frame and the smoke trails giving you the depth of the photo. Brillant Shot!
I keep coming back and looking at this over and over again. It just takes my breath away. Absolutely amazing photo and most well deserving of a blue ribbon.
Every time I glance the thumbnail I see a claw and no, I don't do drugs.
Congrats on a superb capture. They couldn't be any more in formation than in this shot. The parallelism is awesome. Wow, I said parallelism. I'm sure the pilots would love this shot.
What an amazing shot! I didn't vote in this one, but would have certainly been another 10 from me. My one question would be how did you decided which one to go with?? That shot with the red white and blue somke is also top notch!! Congratulations on the blue!
Wow, Bob, what an amazing achievement. An astonishing photo, an amazing score, a blue for your first ribbon, and a ribbon in a Free Study. All virtual impossibilities. Congratulations!!!
Very cool... the image has a "poster" like effect, probably from the enhancements to the smoke trails, which looks really great for this theme. Good job!
Congrats on so many things, starting with a poster-quality photo! FS blue, personal best, and first ribbon are tied for second. :) And what a HUGE score!
Congrats!! You totally deserved this! I was so happy to see this shot in first place! I loved your other image you used in the july side challenge. Congrats again!!
Wonderful to see an aerobatics shot take a blue, especially in a Free Study, and this is one of the best we've seen on DPC. First rate in every way. Congrats!
It's a good feeling, isn't it? You'll be walking on air all week. The image has so many things going for it -- geometry, texture, rhythm. Wonderful work. The outtakes are good too. Congrats!
Good job - I took a few pics (in my portfolio) of the same thing. I didn't have time to edit for a proper FS entry but I think that your image would probably have beaten mine in any case! Good shot.
OMG! A truly amazing photo. When I saw the thumb, I thought it looked like a giant claw. Huge congratulations on your win, Bob. This is such an excellent image.
Congratulation on the very well deserved ribbon,
btw, you forgot to cross the '' Get above a 6.75 in a challenge '' in your objictives :)
I really don't know who would rate such a photo 3 or even 5 !!
way to go ..
all the best,
Auuuuuugh! I don't even know what to say. This leaves me speechless! This challenge had so many stunning photos, but I'll say, the right one won top honors! CONGRATULATIONS!
I remember seeing this earlier (though I don't recall whose portfolio). I loved it then and I love it now. Definitely in my top 2-3 favorites. Hope you get a ribbon!
wo...this will surely be a contender for a ribbon...it's spectacular and dramatic and is the best airshow image I have seen on dpc...good luck with this 10 from me...
This is one of the best aviation shots that I have seen in a very long time! Very dramatic, excellently composed. This is getting listed as a favorite and I'd love to see about buying a print of it. 10
This is my equal #1 with a score of 9.
If you get to recrop this just leave a sliver more space at the bottom right, they need a little bit of space to fly into.
