I originally wanted a square composition from this, and the square compositions are nice. I had a dust spot on my sensor that created a nice distracting spot in the waterfall. So in an effort to use this shot for this challenge, I decided to try this crop and actually like it better than the square version. The 'finished' version of this photo has a gaussian blur layer added to it.
The weather for this shoot was interesting. The light was great because it was overcast. However, it was windy and 50 degrees outside. Kudos to my model for making these shots possible :)
As for the challenge, this is NOT a candid, per chance, stroke of luck photo. The way this challenge is worded, I don't really understand what it means. However, I have my own opinion and I have executed it here.
"Gaia" is Mother Earth... mother of the Titans... Earth itself...

John, I was looking at the technical details & noticed that the subject distance is listed at "665M" which would be 2148.95 feet, using a 60mm focal length. That can’t be right; I must not be interpreting this correctly?
I'm not quite sure about that either. The lens I used for this photo is the only one in my collection that produces this value in the exif data. I think it simply uses this number when the focus is at infinity rather than something less.

No.. It was on the right hand side of the frame that has been cropped out in this composition.

I cropped off the right side instead of the left. I composed this shot intending to make the final version square and take out the pool of water at the bottom.

I also wondered if that would have led my focus away from her. I’ll take a look at your site to see if it is there. I hope to learn more about composure/cropping and to see how you worked your magic on it? This was one of my 2 favorites in this challenge. Having just taken another look at your site I see it and the other picture(s) of the Waterfall. Is there something on the left that is ‘unsightly’? In any event I look forward to your photos, comments and knowledge shared! Tim
There is nothing unsightly anywhere in this particular composition. This version will become part of my own collection. I like this one better than the square version. I have more plans for this model at this waterfall when the weather warms up a little more. She's very cooperative and enjoys being photographed.

stupid premise. if you are going to try so hard at least make the composition more interesting. a tighter shot would have made it more visually interesting.
One of my favorites... finding an excellent place to fish and having the right baite is all that one could ask for... glad you had the camera with you!
Stumbling on a bathing beauty? I like the waterfall and the composition overall. Color migh be more effective, but that's strictly subjective. A closer crop on the lady from just below her feet would have more impact. 9
Gorgeous and spot on challenge. What is gorgeous? The photo - a super location with a stunning addition to add that touch of Serendipity. The lack of detail on the model is just right, so the imagination does the rest!
