I'm helping develope a new windshield for the Varadero as the factory original is lame to say the least. I can now attest that this windshield is far superior as far as wind noise & buffeting go yet it significantly slows the top speed!
Shooting Info:
I mounted my Niknon 5700 on my tank bag with velcro. It was resting on a piece of wood with a no slip rubber mat. I triggered the exposure with my left hand as my right hand was busy at the time ... wish I had another type of release for it.

The only part about this that is bothering me is the windscreen part on the right side. It just doesn't belong there somehow, but then again without it you wouldn't know there is a windscreen there..... hmmm! The rest is good though, well done.
Composition: Interesting composition. I would like to see more of the sky above the mountains, but the size of the picture does give a panoramic type feel. I also think that if you had the windshield showing on both sides it would have been a little more balenced, giving it a symmetrical look.
Technical: One thing that bothers me is how sharp the edge of the windshield is. I think a lot less exposure and a slower shutter could have made a cooler motion blur affect. To bad about the clock being off, not much you could do about that.
Meets the Challenge: check
Overall: Risky shot! Or at least to the viewers. I like how there is a story behind it (traveling at 120 mph). Nice perspective of riding a motorcycle. Good job
When I first saw this picture I was not sure it was real. Still gave it +8. Being a motorcycle rider myself I know things fly by at this kind of speed.
Now when I know what shutter speed was used I did a little math. After a fast calculation I found that your Honda Varadero moved about 15 cm during the exposure. That seems to match the small motion blur seen on the right side of the picture.
Always remember to ride safe.
Rubber side down! :-)
At least that looks like a reasonable place to do that ... for maybe another 1.5 seconds!
Ah HA! I've always suspected you were an outlaw... 1.5 seconds @ 120 and a dead-end up ahead. You've got that down pretty good for never having stepped over the "Thin Blue Line" !
Too much emphasis on the the car and not the view which is more interesting to me than the dials.
One might think that you have not ridden a motorcycle. In any event it is going to be hard to beat one of your flower photos ... they are very nice!

Please don't do that again. It is dangerous enough to drive 120 mph without trying to take a picture while doing it! I don't know how you managed to get a picture like this without a blur when going so fast. Bye the way...your clock must be wrong...and my brother always gives me a bad time about my clocks being off. At least I don't advertise it in a photograph for all to see.
The only thing that indicates speed is the gages, the BG is too sharp. A slower shutter speed would help.
I tried different exposures and they did not produce the sharp focus I was after on the gauges. I've found it hard to get much motion blur doing this sort of shot... It's usually a big trade off. I noticed that you did it effectively with your ‘Drive’ picture in the Motion blur challenge. I’ll try some of your suggestions to see if I can perfect shots like this.
Thank you for your votes and comments. I achieved one of my goals with this entry. To submit a photo that people doubt as being 'real' & knowing that if it were recommended for disqualification it would be validated as such, even if the basic editing rules were in place for this challenge. It's a shame it wasn't recommended for DQ within the first few minutes as the score tended to go up from the point in time it was validated. I am working on a "How I did it" for those of you that wondered. I've SAFELY taken hundreds of photos while riding. Perhaps someone else might be inspired to do it safely and sanely. I can only help with the safe part of it.
As far as it being so light at “AM 1:30”. The battery died while out on the ride and I could not get the clock adjusted safely while riding… so I left it… it was not meant to be a Red Herring yet it was noticed by many.

This is quite wonderful and one of my top picks. However: I wonder if the cycle itself was added in PS? It's an amazing capture if you were really going 120 mph at the time (and lucky you made it back to post it), and how could it be 1:15 AM and be so light out?

The most amaing thing about this photo is that you where able to handle a camera going this fast. I think some motion blur would help a bit (i do see some at the very edges, but more would be cool).
I'm sure some will comment (or congratulate you) on making it home to submit this image. At least you made it on time :>)>
I say to them, "Speed does NOT kill, stopping abruptly is what kills."
Must be California, it's green in winter, and the sun shines 24 hours a day...
Let's see....driving a motor cycle at 120 mph & taking pics.....
Considering the circumstances, you did a GREAT job! No over expoxed reflections, great clarity & very nice perspective.
One question though....light out at 1:15am? lol
I'd sure like to know how you got this picture so sharp at the speed you were going and with the tachometer near the redline! (Hmmm, looks like California hills too. ) This should do well in the Challenge. 9
