I presume you're referring to Chevron? In which case I'd really want the sign to be in focus. In fact I'd suggest not having the bird in the shot?

the bird is lost to the busy background, good focus on the bird though

the placement of the bird at the horizon, the complex blurred background creates a very dizzy feel to the image - and i think it actually works because of it....
