you could have enhanced this image very much by appropriate use of some adjustment layers such as levels, saturation, etc.

Poor contrast and focus. Some levels adjustment and sharpening could make this pop more. The composition is uninspiring as well.

Cure capture, I think if you could have got lower to the ground or maybe in front of them it would have made the picture have more ooomph.
