Portrait of a friend. Just natural light and a silver reflector. Editing: converted from RAW, monochrome conversion in channel mixer, some smart sharpen, noise added, resize.
I've had real trouble choosing between two edits - a deliberately blurred noisier one and this sharper one that I know will score higher. Although part of me likes the other edit more, I just think the emotion of the portrait is just that little bit starker and more direct with this one, so I'm going to go with it.

This is so, so powerful and moving. For me personally, this is an image that I will remember much more than most of the other photos of studio-lit smiley girls in this challenge. Not that there's anything wrong with those photos, it's just that this one has so much more to it. Superb work.
I think a sharper picture would not have conveyed the "troubles" of your model. You did an excellent job with the light, getting just enough fill on the far side of the face to give detail without losing the shaping of the shadows.
