Post challenge:
I quite personally thought that this would score higher, even at a 6.1...but oh well, i really love it, so thats all that really matters.
Lighting was extremely simple, I sat in front of a window. No other lights.
And as for the tonal choice, i pre set it in my camera, sepia with some filters set in camera. I think thats how I got my lips so colorless.
Image processing was minimal, slight levels, crop, and slight sharpen.

I thought I should circle back with you. I mentioned you in the comments of one of my images //dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=684701 because I was inspired by your photo. I love the intimacy of your shot... I'm fascinated how the camera allows the viewer to be so close to the subject without having ever met. To be this close would be SUCH an invasion of personal space, yet the photo makes it okay. Interesting in a weird way.
Anyway, I wasn't trying to duplicate your shot but I wanted something that had a similar intimacy. I think I pushed the wide angle distortion a little more than you. My daughter did the modeling for me because she's much more pleasing to look at up close than me. :)
Anyway, thanks for the great image and thanks for the inspiration. I wanted to make sure you know your work is appreciated and has spawned creativity in others (or copycats).

Nicely done. Not sure if it was your intent, but this reminds me of "beauty dish" lighting. Your self portraits are all engaging, and this is no exception. 8
I think I have seen 50 images of this model... self portrait? This has a couple of characteristics that I would like to explore sometime. First, is the tone and flat lighting. In particular, I don't know how your kept your lips so "colorless". The second is what appears to be short lens distortion. Did this contribute to the large eyes, or do you just have that large and beautiful. Nice crisp focus on the eyes.
Wow! I LOVE the eyes on this shot. It's so interesting to be so close with very nice sharpness. Lighting is very even. This is my favorite of the challenge! 10
