Friday night motocross, Sacramento Raceway, California.
A friend's son, Ryan, riding #691 saves it when bumped at the start by the rider on his left. Ryan finished 2nd in this race, the 125cc beginner class. He won both motos of the 250 beginner class.
My first evening and night photography with the D1X. I used the 50 mm / 1:1.8 lens. I was cautious about using high ISO for fear that noise might become a problem.
Post processing: Raw - +0.67 EV, imported into PS6. Cropped and curved. Converted to 8-bit. Gradient darkening of the sky, lightened and contrasted the foreground dirt. Burned the background, fixed a little motion blur in the subject. Resized for web, and applied sharpen brush in luminosity mode on subjects.

Great photo and fitting title! I looked at for quite awhile, or I wouldn't have noticed some funkiness going in with a few of the heads in the background. Strange. Most people probably won't notice anyway!
The real pop in the foreground of this picture is somewhat diminished by ghostly figures in the sky and with the spectators at the fence on the far left and right which have some odd looking aberrations about their heads.
I like the two riders. The partial end of the one on the far left detracts a bit for me, but good colors, saturation and action capture. The blue background seems a bit odd as it goes into peoples heads.
Main part of photo is a good capture, well exposed, but the upper part has had some weird masking & editing done to it, which is too obvious around the heads of the spectatorsl
