As others have likely said - this is too close and out of focus because of that. Further out and a variation in crop/composition would have made this a much better image in my opinion.

More mainstream, but probably better approach would be to put the center of the bud in focus, and let the leaves be more out of focus.

don't really see the soft focus, the oof of your shot is more shallow DOF than soft focus per se.
