I actually enjoy trying to figure out what I'm gonna attempt to photograph for the challenge each week. I had a few ideas for "Negative Image" but every time I converted my shots they looked like a nuclear winter. Then I thought...How about a nuclear explosion. A mushroom cloud. I went to the local grocery store and picked up a few large "Button" mushrooms and set it up. I used tooth picks to elevate the mushroom and create the plume. The clouds are made from cotton balls. The texture in the mushroom actually worked pretty well. A spotlight from the side cast a believable shadow. Then it was just a matter of post processing.
Invert, levels, curves, hue/sat, selective color, crop, contrast, gausin blur, size and save for web. Fun project.
