 Nothing is more humbling than to look with a strong magnifying glass at an insect so tiny that the naked eye sees only the barest speck and to discover that nevertheless it is sculpted and articulated and striped with the same care and imagination as a zebra. Apparently it does not occur to nature whether or not a creature is within our range of vision, and the suspicion arises that even the zebra was not designed for our benefit.

I'm hoping for a personal best. *sigh* But does a dead dragonfly get me there? I doubt it. *heavy sigh*

POST Challenge: Oh my WORD! I'm thrilled! I knew the moment I saw the dragonfly that he was perfect for the Negative Images job. Usually, I shoot a couple of ideas and then choose one, but I liked him from the beginning. I refreshed Update Scores quite a bit this week. Started out at over a 7 with 3x votes -- so that was a first for me and a thrill. I'm completely thrilled with 9th place and my first little star. *big grin*

I love the inversion. Makes him look almost made of ice or frost. Great detail in the wings.

You got your personal best AND a top ten! And this is a beautiful, sad image. The words you posted with it go so well - it is amazing how detailed and somehow emotion-laden this small creature is. Congratulations! Oh, and I thought I'd commented on this before, but apparently I did not - I like how in negative it looks as though the mouth is open, though when viewed in positive it isn't. That's one of the things that makes this work so well in negative.
