Try to find a bunch of berries that aren't on their way out, half-rotten ones aren't very appealing. ^^;;
I specifically chose a bunch of berries that were on their way out as i liked the textures and colour variations. I note your comment that they aren't very appealing but would say that not everything in life is perfect.
A photograph of a brick wall may be boring but add graffiti to that same wall & a more interesting picture is created (I'm not condoning Graffiti just illustrating that perrfect isn't always best)

Nice use of DOF, but the bright gray branch is more distracting than adding to the photo. Try to find a bunch of berries that aren't on their way out, half-rotten ones aren't very appealing. ^^;; Also, maybe try to place your subject somewhere else rather than just centered in the picture (rule of thirds).
