This seems to be a bit under exposed. When light colours dominate the composition, the camera's meter is fooled into trying to make the light areas medium grey. Once one area is exposed the way you want it then the rest of the exposure just falls into place.
Brown??? Naaa, dark orange. I'll buy that. The photo does captures the essence of the change of seasons. Had there been a bit of green, or even better, a crocus poking it's way through the ice, it would have totally captured spring. Still, nice composition and a serene photo.
