This was one of the ones I was considering for the Peek-a-Boo challenge. As fierce and mean as he looks, I think he's just a sweetheart at heart. He was letting those turtles crawl all over his head, and whenever he would swim off, a couple of them would hop on his back for a free ride, and he didn't seem to mind a bit :)
I ended up thinking my turtle was my best bet, and I'm thinkin' I was prob'ly right :), but I really liked this photo too so I thought I'd convert it to black and white and share it for my Week Whatever it is. This one, I do like much better in color, but think it's not half bad in black and white too :)
I used my 70-200L zoom lens again. With a flash pointed over his head, and I had to course, squirm around to get the best angle to get the swirls of light in the water at just a little above eye level.
WOW you are just so good at these type of animal images..... I love the way toy have captured the reflection and the wonderful processing that you have given this one..... A true classic and timeless reptile image.....
This is just stunning Sandy! Where do you take these pictures and how do you get them to pose for you?? It's the water that makes this shot, and I love how it's perfectly reflecting near it and then blurry farther out.
That eye is amazing (was he/she eyeing you for lunch?), reflections are great, like the patterns and softness of the water in foreground and the background
Sandy I think you would have got the blue whichever shot you entered. I know you like the colour version, but I think honestly I actually prefer the black and white. It's awesome.
I think the B&W works quite well here - it really makes the details pop on the face and eye, whereas the color almost kinda makes those details blend with his surroundings better. So it's a toss-up depending on what you want to feature. Great shot, and probably would have won the red if you could have entered both shots!
AWWWW how cute! I love baby alligators. They have to be the cutest things. I really like both your shots.(sorry I didn't comment on your winning image) Either one is a winner to me. of course..all your stuff rocks. I just want to pick this little guy up and hug him..hahaha..
wonderful detail! That 70-200 f4.0 IS seems to work extremely well for you. I really like the reflection here also, which gives it an added degree of interest.
