Did a ton of shots with different bugs and even a slug. Of course the last shot I worked up was the best. Part of what limited me is the silverware was scratched at this macro level and I could use cloning to tone it down somewhat. I do like the texture of the horizontal scratches which is likely from the creation of the knife, but the chaotic scratches need to go.
Converted from RAW, S/H, Contrast, Saturation, Resize, USM, border, BAM!

I don't know - I think the chaotic scratches add a sense of texture and depth. Were they all horizontal and evenly spaced it might not be as appealing. You have a great series of ladybug prints you can market - I suspect that's your plan?
Doc, do you order these ladybugs up or something? I sometimes buy them at the local plant store, with the downside of having to keep them in the fridge until use. I actually like the "chaotic" scratches - I think they add some interesting texture to this photo.
That yellow greenish reflection on the right side is distracting. There must have been something lying near by when you took the shot. Also, the washed out highlight on the knife is distracting as well. I would have liked a little more sharpness on the bug. Good idea. Must have took some time.
