I had been waiting for a 'pet portrait' contest to come up ever since the first time he did this. getting him to sit still was another trick. Every time he got all three in his mouth, he would want to lay down to chew on them. I eventually had to hold ANOTHER ball above the camera to hold his attention. (he tries for a second to get the fourth one if they're on the ground)

Got to be one of the best pet portraits I’ve seen for ages. Technically good, and as per the title puts a SMILE on your face… has the “aaaaaah” factor. A well deserved blue, congrats.
Big congrats on the ribbon Jason. Glad I wasn't taking a drink when I saw this - f'ing amazing and whilst for a fleeting moment I thought of animal cruelty I quickly realised you can't force 3 tennis balls in a dogs mouth and get him to say "I'm clever" with his eyes. A fourth ball? let us know if he manages that!
I said it would ribbon and it did!!! YAY, I think you did a great job, it is clear, sharp in focus the colours are great and it has a sense of humour. A WELL deserved win
When I saw this (no vote this challenge) I knew it was game over. No one has a right to have such a beautiful and talented dog, and even to line up the lines on the tennis ball with his left lip. (Lip details add a lot). Nice cross-breed, too.
Well right there it is... incontrovertible proof of evolution! I'm not loving the background, and the eyes are kinda dull, but this model will not be denied a great portrait. 9
Very cool photo - How'd you get him (?) to stay still? Fluff on the balls a little distracting and I'd like to see slightly 'brighter' eyes. Not allowed to vote in this challenge but it would have been a 9'er. ps. Mrs Jay Currently ROTFLHAO!!
Cute! Bet you've heard that a few times, eh? :-) The concept is quite clever and overall well executed. Something about the lighting...it's almost too controlled and gives a slightly flat appearance to this photo. Did you "dry" the dogs mouth and nose via post-processing? They seem unusually dull (non shiny) and dry. Last thing (sorry, feels like I'm pickin on you - don't mean too)...the dogs left eye (the viewers right) looks like the reflection was tamped down a little causing it to look fuzzy (non sharp).
I like this photo (really!). Is it possible to have something too perfect?
All of this is JMO of course, and regardless, I think you'll be scoring quite high with it. Best of luck to you in the challenge.
Cute idea - just wish the eyes looked like the dog was a bit happier about this trick. Perhaps try holding a favorite treat up at the last moment, or using a key word that gets your friend excited.
NO WAY! That's freakin' hilarious! I'm sure this will be amongst the top 10, adorable shot! Not to mention how talented that pooch is to be able to hold that many balls!
That's a hoot :-))) His eyes look bored, though. Maybe a little dodge and burn to perk them up? With the stark background I'd also use a little more light from one side or the other to make him look more 3-dimensional. Really great pose, though.
