From a very early age, I had a recurring nightmare of lions and tigers chasing me, and trying to bite off my hands. I also had one where "the enemy" had won the war (WWII) and was cutting off everyone's arms. It wasn't until I was about 50 years old that I realized I must have overheard an adult talking about disarmament.
This was taken using a zoom burst (rotating the zoom lens while the shutter is open).

RAW conversion: adjusted white balance, exposure, contrast, and sharpness. Used split tone to give it a feel of night -- reduced the yellow and increased the blue and green.
CS3: luco sharpened; brought yellow back to the eyes with soft light layer; brought pink back to the tongue with overlay layer; reduced the color with a b&w layer at 50% opacity; brightened midtones with a levels adjustment; removed a distracting palm frond from the upper left corner; added white border; resized; saved for web.
this is a wonderful image, very evocative. and thanks for the story too. i only figured out in my late 20s why i was so scared to put the duvet over my head (i'm still not mad on it) the duvet (which my son still uses) was bought by my parents when i was about 5. i remember reading on the plastic bag - keep away from children, danger of suffocation. of course, as a literal minded child, i took that to mean the duvet, not the bag. oops...
Oooh this should have scored higher. Excellent use of your lens to get this effect. It's got a dreamy quality but the subject makes it scary. Wonderful job of translating what your mind's eye sees!
Only a handful of people created the "visual feeling" of a memory (I wasn't one of them). Bear_Music did it. So did MaryO. This was the boldest attempt. Good work!
Congrats on the Posthumous Yellow, Juli!!
I really like this and it looks like most of your commenters really liked it too. You did a great job of depicting the memory. What a scarey first memory to have!
Hard to depict such a thing - but I think you did well. I used to have recurring nightmares of giant wheels rolling and rolling in abstract space... Memorable to this day but impossible to describe really. Not sure how many voters will understand though ;-)
