This is my office building (not far from my favorite spiral staircase). It has these wonderful curving sections. The mesh up top is supposed to stop pigeons, but I'm not convinced it works.
The framing is an example of DPC learning. Someone commented on this shot that my presence reduced the emphasis on architecture, and since this challenge is supposed to be about the building, I didn't include any people:
And on this shot, someone commented that it might've worked better in a vertical orientation to emphasize the high arches. That same concept applied here.
The hardest thing was getting the camera perfectly vertical, while also catching as much of the ceiling as I wanted, to avoid the perspective effect where walls converge toward the top of the frame. That meant I couldn't just point the camera upward.
I actually climbed into an alcove on the right side - it's about 4 feet up. I stood up in it and held the camera over my head. Gotta love flip-out LCDs!
I think I did well on the left, but I didn't quite get it perfect on the right side, so I probably was pointed a bit off to one side. And of course, I can't tweak the perspective in basic editing.
Shot with my point-and-shoot because it's light, so I can easily carry it to work! On the other hand, this was a cloudy day, and I knew I was pushing it at 1/30s, so I had to go up to ISO 100. At anything other than ISO 50, this camera has noise problems.
So editing started with a light noise reduction pass and included typical stuff like sharpening, contrast enhancement using curves and a selective color adjustment layer, and hue/sat.

I was just comparing this to the other shot you listed here and I have to say that I really like the color tone on this. The neutrality allows you to follow the curving path with out distraction. The patterns and geometry are really beautiful.
Congrats and nice placement; 15 out of 242! You now hold 2nd and 3rd highest photos taken with your camera, very sweet.
I read through your notes but didn't actually see any specific location other than just "Washington DC". I thought I recognized the locale (see comment made during voting). -BB
