This is part of a series I am putting together on the proposed site for the London 2012 Olympic games bid - at present an extraordinary mixture of industrial wasteland and waterways (see also my desolation entry) - all of which lies about ten minutes walk from my flat. Some 100 years ago the area was drained by the introduction of newly construced rivers and canals, and it is also one of the larger areas of railway yards in the country. It was of course, a major target for bombing raids throughout the second world war.
The dockland territory of London has disappeared beneath the banks' offices these days, and whilst I welcome the Olympic bid, I feel a slight nostalgia for the progressive disappearance of the relics of indistrial London.
This is an old shackle hanging underneath a bridge (it's purpose impenetrable to me): the extraordinary light is bright sunlight reflected from the water below.

I love how this image works...unfortunately my eye keeps getting drawn to the one little speck of highlight amidst the darker part on the left side and the bottom of the "hoseshoe"...
The tones create such a great moody image. Wonderful lighting, good use of light/shadow to enhance the mood, great subject choice, and nice detail, texture, and sharpness. A really nice image.
