Shot after sunset on a California beach during a retreat for a select group of Equine Photographers in October. You can see more from the retreat here: v18c
Holy wow! I was sure I was hanging in the top 20 after the 2nd half of the voting week passed but 5th! I'm honored and surprised. Thanks for the votes and more importantly thanks for all the wonderful comments.
The gal riding is another equine photographer, horsewoman, friend and apparently a great model too! She knew just what the rest of us needed to get that shot. She took a horse she didn't know and after only 10 minutes of riding took it out into the ocean, where it had never gone before.

Saw this in the 'most fav'ed thread'. Wow, beautiful capture. Love how you captured the flow of the waves and the splashes which show a moment frozen in time. The duotones also compliment the scene with calling attention to the contrasts (shading of light & dark) and also heightening our awareness on the textures/shapes (the horse's coat and folds of the dress & curves of the waves)
This is so exquisite, the pleats in the dress, the water splashing around her.... she looks so fragile on that powerful looking horse. Excellent, just excellent!!
This is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love it, the foreground out of focus doesn't bother me at all it lends to the feel and treatment for me. I love that the water is splashing so high all up around her. I know the model, great gal and photographer also! I heard about her getting on this new horse and taking off into the surf, what a horsewoman and trust from this big equine! This is an amazing beach to shoot at also. The lighting can be tricky to say the least.
Absolutley incredible!
Brobably lost some points to some stuck-ups who get all emotional about trashing a beautiful dress. This image made me stop & go WOW. & Favourited it.
ok, one more time...CRISTY, LOOK AT WHAT YOU DID! congrats on the placing! great image, beautiful image...and to say i was there and know all of this to be true! woot! woot!
This is INCREDIBLE!!! What a shoot! I love the splash. I wish that the forground were a tad sharper, but this is wonderful. Great use of your available light. I love how the bride looks so calm with all the excitement going on around her.
Ohmygoodness ! ! This is one of my favorite pictures of all time. I can't believe it didn't get one of the highest scores ever received on dpChallenge -- and I'm shocked that it didn't win a ribbon!
I keep looking at it -- and the more I look at it, the more it takes my breath away!
Congratulations. . .more on just having a photo like this in your gallery than for even winning an honorable mention in such a competitive amazing challenge. This will be special forever, long after the challenge is forgotten!
Wonderful angelic image. Love the result. 17% voted and commented and this is my first 10. Makes my heart flutter. I am usually critical of overprocessing but the result here is perfect IMO. Great job. Good Luck. 10.
Edit...297 images commented and voted on...still my only 10.
Edit...479 images commented and voted on and this was my only 10. It truly is a breathtaking image. I will be suprised in this does not ribbon.
Great fairy tale feel to to this image. Perfect in duotones & nice contrast. I think I've lost enough weight to fit into my wedding dress again...now I just need a horse! : ) Back to bump you up to 9 and adding to fav's.
This is kitsch beyond kitsch. This is superlative kitsch. Look how serene she is. She's not giving me some stupid, fake, sultry look. She has achieved Kitsch Nirvana. This image does not have the annoying DPC quality of wanting me to like it. This image knows it's beautiful. It was etched upon the very brow of Yahweh at the beginning of time, waiting for this moment to foam into existence upon our undeserving world.
This is probably the prettiest trashing of the dress I've seen. I presume grigrigirl? I like it but I'm not too keen on the POV. It's not as engaging as your other work.
hey, i know this one...beautiful...i won't score though, but if i did, it would be a strong 9! DID I SAY 9? I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WAS DRINKING THAT DAY?!!!
I love the look of this very much. The thing that bothers me is that the water is flying and the horse's mane is flying, but her hair is perfectly in place. I like the tone, it works well for this image.
