This is the Santa Fe Bridge. It is a swing span bridge. It has two lanes on the top portion and the train tracks are on the bottom. It swings open when barges go through. This bridge opened in 1928 and it's still a toll bridge (it costs $1.00 to cross to Illinois-"free" on the way back).
Cool! We have an old swing bridge here on the river too. It's much smaller than this one and is limited to 10,000 lb vehicles. Is that all birds on the water?
Isn't it interesting that they only charge in one direction on most bridges. The blue water is great. Long swing span bridge. Sorry to hear about all the household problems. Nice place to blow off steam.
