I decided to shoot this old shed for this challenge. I've taken many pictures of it before. It is in a small community not far from the city. I drove out, took some pictures and was back home all within 1/2 an hour. It's behind a boarded up house so I was probably trespassing but it has been boarded up for a few years and there are no signs or a gate or fence. I did sink in the snow a couple of times, snow in your boots is not fun. :)
There used to be a cooler shed right next to it, half falling down, roof all sunk in, now it has completely fallen down. I think that's part of it in the background.
It was cloudy all morning and lunch time it started to partly clear off. The clouds started to look interesting so off I went hoping to capture them in the photo as well. The photo was taken at 2:15 in the afternoon but because this is winter and I do live in Newfoundland it looks like it's near sunset (the sun sets around 4:30).
In PSP 7:
-crop
-resize
-sharpen
-clarify (3 times at strength 5)
-saturation
-contrast
-noise reduction
If it had been advanced editing I would have cloned out the bird (dark speck above fallen shed in the background).
I just now noticed that this was you and not one of the Iceland people! Congrats on the ribbon!! A beautiful old place, and glad the weather gave you what you wanted. Excellent shot!
woohoo chappers!!!!! Sorry it has taken me so long to comment on this shot but I have been working away. Many many congratulations on the ribbon, the 7+ average and your second highest score
I think it takes a hell of a photographer to produce an image of such beauty out of what is essentially an ugly subject, but you have done this remarkably
Incredible tones and colours and a beuatiful haunting composition
Congrats on an amazing shot, I gave you a 9 and happened to not comment for some reason. I must be out of my mind. This is perfect for all the right reasons. Perfectly lit, well composed, and just is a perfect building for the challenge. Congrats on the Ribb.
Congratulations on the Red, Karen. It shows that it pays to shoot the same place more then once. I love the colors and the textures and the snow looks abandoned as well.
Congrats on another ribbon Karen! You upped your overall average with this one too! : )
Love the sky, and that you thought to put the elements together to get this shot to share with us. Excellent!
Nice capture of the sky. I like the colors and contrast. If there was a way to improve I would experiment with the mid-tone levels to see if you can get more detail out of the black object behind the building without losing too much color in the sky. Not sure if the basic editing rules will allow you to dodge that area or other dark areas to reveal details. Great shot anyway!!
