thanks to everyone for their comments this week. this was not the original concept i was going for when i ventured down to the beach. i got a decent shot of that concept, but decided to post this shot instead because i just thought it had a calmer, prettier feel. i was sitting on the beach taking a lot of shots and was very happy to see this family walking by against the sunset.
paganini - i took about 100 shots that day, all in full manual mode. so if it's overexposed, that's my fault. i don't see it as overexposed, but it IS very tough to balance the dark beach and sillhouettes with a very bright sun.
shot with a polarizing and uv filter. leveled and maybe some curves in photoshop, can't remember.
Composed beautifully. Gorgeous clouds and sky... Nice choice to include the figures, and they are in the right position. They add scale as well. Good work!
beautiful photo... these clouds are just about perfect :) The family with the dogs on the beach is also a very nice touch. this photo would not be the same without it :) = 10 - setzler

challenge met -- yes appeal / composition -- very good. composition is great, love how the people and beach are almost but not quite a silhouette. nice change from just a couple. technical -- very good overall -- 9 gr8photos :)
i think the skyline is a bit over exposed, losing details on the clouds, typical effect of failure of most automatic metering system (it attempts to average to get middle gray but since the skyline is darker, it opens the sutter a bit too much by probably 1/2 stops here). 6
Very nice. Jersey is such a secret. People travel into Newark International airport and think that the state is just one huge oil refinery, which couldn't be further from the truth. Lovely shot.
