I gave this a 9 without even realizing who it was in the picture (which would have told me who the photographer was)! I love this shot and I think the graininess adds a wonderful mood to it. Very interesting effect. It makes it look almost like a graphite pencil drawing. I admire you for taking the chance and submitting something a little more artistic even though it apparently cost you in points. I wouldn't change a thing (except maybe the title--not one of your best. ;-) ).
Nice picture of silence and contemplation. I do like the grain, but maybe if it were just a touch less obvious (gaussian blur it some). I read that using real film grain scanned in and then overlayed on the shot makes a perfect representation. But, that would be for your own use and not a basic edit challenge
Beautiful! I would like to see more of the subject's eyes though. Don't move anything , but direct the subject to look into the camera without moving at all. I think this would allow the viewer to emotionally connect with the subject.
You've created a haunting mood here. The position of the hand tells the "silent" story in an unusual way. I like the direction of the eyes but would like to see a some indication of light/color difference in the one in the upper right. As presented, good job.
The grain works alright, for me, an effect like that needs more impact though. The lighting looks like it was really good, but the grain sort of takes away from it without more contrast. 5.
