I know some people are totally freaked out by rats in general and can't imagine intentionally bringing one into the house as a pet, but they're actually pretty smart and entertaining. Not that I'm bringing one home, mind you ;-) This little guy and his brother are friendly little shelter residents at the moment, and I just sent his picture in to the Washington Post for next week's Farifax Extra section. I like to remind people that shelters have way more critters than just dogs and cats.
This particular shot I liked just because I caught him in the split second he stopped to sniff the toy, and his tail was curled enough that I could get the whole rat with some level of detail. I've also been experimenting with various ISO's recently in an attempt to avoid using the flash at all when doing my indoor shots at the shelter. Worked pretty well on this guy.
