This was actually taken on Wednesday, December 19 as the construction crew put on the finishing touches to the many-months-long project to rip out and replace the stairs leading up to the back (east) entrance of the Capitol. This is the main staircase most Capitol employees use to get into the building (at least the ones who want to get a modicum of exercise, like me) as it faces our parking lot directly across Capitol Ave.
All of this was gone by the end of the day, and the whole thing was once again open for use on Thursday, the 20th. They were still working on a few minor things when I left for the day in midafternoon; everything needs to be cleaned up for the Speaker's funeral on Friday (see my Dec 21 entry).
In the background is the west tower of the Twin Towers and MLK Dr, which you can see in the Dec 4 entry.
