 The darkness of the night and the pitch blackness it conveys gives you this endless emptyness and hollowness. Like a black hole sucking all the sound and matter how of the earth and leaving you with nothing. The little bit of soft snow gives a sense of the everything being undistrubed and quiet.
Somehow I didn't get the creepy greenish glow that usually comes with Street lamps.

I wish this shot had been done better, because it's good as is and could be really cool. I see three problems. First, the flare around the light is a little bright. Also, that little box at the base of the streetlamp is distracting. Finally, the background is pitch black. I would have liked to see it better.

the stark light is nice...i can 'hear' the silence.

The photograph as a whole definitely conveys the feeling of silence. I'd like to see some different crops - perhaps where the light source is not as central, to add a more dynamic composition. The effect of the light is beautiful and very peaceful.
