This is a hairless chimpanzee that is at teh st louis zoo. He has some sort of disease or allergy that causes him to lose his hair. I though this shot reminded me of Golem in Lord of the Rings.
Hairless and faceless, gorilla is even more certainly us. Lonely, sad, thoughtful, deeply reflective. (If he is just opening a bag of peanuts you'd have shown us, and in colour. As it is, the mid greys mirroring of lines in the back and the tree trunk bases and the shock of hairlessness take us into our imagination).
This image makes me sad - almost to the point of crying. Maybe that's because I alway assume loss of hair in animals as a stress related condition. Moving shot.
