I will have to 'fess. This was a shot that I attempted and missed (I was a bit late). I liked the character though and a possible edit came to mind.
I dupped the layer, did a head-on motion blur and then created a left-to-right gradient mask. The new layer is also slightly to the right of the bg layer.
