The tricky part of this shot was to get my five-year-old daughter to hold the coin in the right place, smile to reveal her bottom row of teeth, look into the lens and avoid wiggling! Her loose tooth came out during the challenge, inspiring the concept. This was her first tooth to fall out so we gave her a Sacajawea golden dollar to celebrate the milestone.
I had my daughter face east in early morning sunlight just before the sun peaked over my neighbor's roof. The catch light in her eyes is the silhouette of the roofline. I tried the 16-35mm first and then moved to the 70-200mm. The 70-200 fulfilled my vision for shot. Here's a sample from my first attempt.
As I started shooting, she began shivering in the morning chill. So I had her run in a get a jacket. She picked out the hooded leopard print which turned out to be perfect.
