The flames suffered from blown highlights, because i painted with light. But I wanted to experiment with the long exposure rather than the strobes.

And it’s a RED :)
Thanks for all the comments
Deja Vu here
An attempt at Sir BAZZ’s “popcorn”. I’ve recreated lots of images I see on DPC, but I don’t submit or post them because I just do it to learn. This time I wanted to see if I could come close in a challenge.
I used a small maglite flashlight with a luxeon led bulb. I softened the light by taping paper over the lens. I then made a hood for the flashllight out of cardboard to control stray light. Painting with light made it easier to target the areas I wanted since “basic” does’nt allow cloning. It was a little difficult to balance the exposure between the popcorn and the flame, because the flame kept over exposing. I only turned on the flame when I was ready to shoot. Whole process took about 2 hours. I almost self DQ’d because I did’nt expect it to do so well. I hope Garry is’nt mad at me for using his concept, but from his comment he does’nt sound upset :) I’ve been trying to avoid advanced editing of late, because I realize I’m spending more time in photoshop than setting up the shot and learning to use my camera. I was also testing myself to see how well I could execute an image like this in “basic”. The ribbon is a nice bonus
All that aside, It should’ve ribboned in heat (IMHO) and this concept belongs to the pentaxians :)

Who cares about blown highlights but the voters here at DPC, in the real world of photography outside of DPC no one but technically anal amateur photographers care :) Should just let it go and not worry about such minor details. Nice copy of the original, very well done technically.
Well done David! I had a high score all week long but I knew that if any image was gonna beat mine it was this one. You easily had my highest vote in the challenge. Congrats on your first ribbon!
I really like this, the color is spot on, great use of background. Only thing I would have liked to have seen changed was a bit of motion blur in solitary kernel.
I really like this because of the blue flame. It really adds to the warmth of the shot as well as the appearance of action. How did you keep the popcorn from burning? You must be a fast worker. This is my favorite so far.
I love it. Could be a strong but clearly I would never know and wouldn't care. The capture is great and using the gas stove makes the shot. Well executed on an excellent sharp image.
A very symetrical picture, but with one piece of popcorn breaking the whole thing up. The colors are good, the focus quality is good, and the overall shot is fun. I love it!
