OK, so it's a stretch, and a cliche (sp?). Oh well. :)
Shot RAW, converted and worked on in PSCS3.
Adjusted exposure, colours, contrast/brightness in conversion.
In PS, adjusted curves and colours, applied NN, used variations, resized, more NN, USM, saved for web.

AFTER THE CHALLENGE:
Uh, oh, I really wasn't expecting this. Well. FWIW, this image was made 1 minute and 16 seconds before "apocalyptic vision" - same place, of course :)
Thank you for all the comments/votes, it's all very much appreciated.

Congratulations Ursula. We should go to Jasper together next year *winks*. Sure Medicine Lake is always photogenic no matter when and where we took the picture from but your shots are even more amazing.
My trip included 2300 km of driving, visiting 6 lakes, taking 1000+ pictures and climbing a glacier in a total of 4 days.
Well you certainly don´t fool around or waste shot´s/opportunities, hehe, congrats! Reminds me when I took my postcard and free study red ribbon winners last year only 1 minute apart and standing in the same place :)
Thanks for posting the originals Ursula. I was expecting more heavy processing but apart from the dodge/burn on "apocalyptic vision", there's not much more than what a tinted filter would have achieved. I'm even more impressed, if that's possible! :) The originals are stand out pictures in their own right, I love the dark exposure, gives them more of a "fantasy" feel.

Uh, excuse me Ursula, but isn't there something written in the bylaws on this site stating you are only allowed one ribbon a week, and not two? Heehee...congrats, it is a beautiful shot!!!
You know, I bet if I lived in the Rockies at the BC/Alberta border, I'd have fifty-seven ribbons, too. Congratulations. :-P
He, he, I don't live in the Rockies at the BC/Alberta border :) But I do know how to drive! :-P If I lived there, I'd have at least 58 ribbons, yeah!!!!
Two ribbons from one location...come on now, where is this :)
Medicine Lake, Alberta, in the Canadian Rockies. Medicine Lake is not too far from Jasper, on the north end of Jasper National Park, on the road to Maligne Lake. It's an interesting lake because it has a very large underground drainage system. At the time I was there, this side of the lake had water, but further down the lake there were a lot of areas with no water, more like running channels, and lots of animal tracks in the sandy soil. It was quite cold though, but beautiful.
Congrats on this beautiful photo and on your double ribbon week! Lovely, lovely! In an odd way, I celebrate your two ribbons looking from the other end of the spectrum with admiration at your photographic vision!
