After submitting this, I wonder if the numeral 5 on the weight had a subliminal effect on the voters. Maybe I should have used a 10lb weight? Actually I was shooting stuff for the textures challenge when I shot this. I didn't think it had enough testure for that, but it was black. Dodged a bit in the lower right corner to bring out the fill. There is very little difference in this shot between a full color shot and one that is completely desaturated.

Simple subject. Very good lighting gives a beautiful shadow to the indention of the 5 and really makes it pop out of the shot. Great texture captured on the weight. I like that you were decided to include a portion of the roundness of the weight. I think this shot would've done very well in the texture challenge. "10"
The problem with photographing a number is that I suspect people might subliminally vote "5"... I almost just did, maybe because I haven't had my coffee yet today. :) Nice details, focus, composition and dramatic lighting. 7
