 There are a blossom in middle October in Northwest Illinois. Also, two of them blossom after that red rose. That is the reason why the weather seems different during the Fall season. That's sounds insteresting. They will be gone when the cold weather come. The weather was really different as the temperatures. That picture looks good.

A bit small, you may want to change you DOF to create a more dramatic composition. Nice color and clarity.

the image seems oversharpened, the background is distracting, and I really don't see this on a newspaper or other news magazine

Use the 640 pixels given to you. Here in Southern California this isn't big news, but I assume you're further north.
