Good idea! I think it might have been better even closer though, and perhaps with some color to punch it up (though if really close, B&W might have shown stronger contrasts/textures IMHO.)

just a sponge - needs something else added to the shot to hold interest for more than a few seconds.

Great texture, but I almost think this is one instance where color may have been more interesting.

I see the texture, but the subject and composition just don't hold my interest.

Definitely, obviously texture, at least. But there's no shape, no coherence to the composition: little depth, not a great deal of variety, in short nothing to draw and hold the eye. Monochrome is effective, as it definitely makes the image about surfaces rather than colour. It's just too uninteresting an image for me, I fear.
