Part of an ancient canoe trail in the Florida Everglades Big Cypress Swamp. There was a village about 1/2 mile from this location, and they used dugout canoes to travel many miles around in the Glades. An early road called Sadie Crossing, a route across the Everglades from the west coast toward Miami was about 1/4 mile north of this spot. Some of the poles across the old road are still there in the sand. They used sapling poles laid almost touching across the road to make it possible for wagons to cross soft places without sinking into the muck and sand. It was sort of like paving with wood.
Thanks for all the background info -- the context really helps. Especially from the thumbnail, I thought this reminded me of a recent shot I took of a lake with reeds -- full of green and water. Nice job capturing the feel of the place.
