Challenge:Letting Go (Basic Editing I) Camera:Nikon D100 Location: Home Date: Feb 10, 2004 Aperture: 4.0 ISO: 200 Shutter: 1/2 sec Date Uploaded: Feb 10, 2004
This would have been fantastic shot if it were not for the objects in the background that appear to protude from your wifes face. Very distracting to me. All other aspects were good, lighting, DOF, Composition etc.
I am a new member and this is the first challenge I voted on; and this shot is a deserving winner! I am a lover of classic black and white and the use of DOF to arouse emotion. Your use is beautiful. Also intriguing are the use of the sillouette with the extreme contrast. Great Job!
Congrats on another ribbon Richard! I think you and your wife make a great team, considering all four of your ribbon-winning entries have had her as a large part of the composition! I like your composition here (except I might have tried a few shots with the candle behind her head in a different location) -- I tried doing a bathtub shot for the "At Rest" challenge and sort of fell flat. Considering how many DPC voters dislike the shallow DOF thing, you did really well, and, IMHO, it works in this shot.
I like very much of your emotive point of view in your photography. When I saw this in the challenge I really think that is your. Congratulations for this new ribbon to your collection. I hope you continue to bring up to us your graceful pictures.
Once again I gave myself about one hour to get this shot from camera to the challenge:) no time to make comments or pick a gallery to place this in. My wife does a great job of putting up with me and allowing herself to become a model. There is water in the tub as well as bubbles but the low light hides that truth. The water level could have been higher.
Thanks to all those that rated this so well....
To those that felt this rated a 1 or a 2 I sure would like to know how I failed your sense of even a three? but alas you are the very, very, very few:) you work out to be about 1 percent of the voting public and with that "Insignificant"
I am only bothered by the lack of focus and the strong light in the back on the wall. I know....sounds picky but that is how I see this other wise attractive shot. It's a good entry for the challenge, good luck.
Good shot with female slightly off focus, creating just the right sort of atmosphere... Maybe I would have like it even more if the hand or the glass were removed... A little too much emphasis on the hand and glass steals away the attention from the lovely lady. All in all - you place within the top two entries in my book at least.
Very nice. Really captures the "Letting Go" theme. Composition is good...I like the way you got the feel of the subject, yet focused on the glass. The tone is also fitting. (On second look I went back and raised the score on this one.)
Great composotion and I like the contrast levels. The way the glass draws the eye to the foreground is nice too. Black & white gives it a feeling that color can't achieve. I really like it.
This is exactly how I let go and unwind... I have a wonderful hot bath, with Lush bath goodies, I have a drink to hand, maybe some chocolates or strawberries, and a pile of magazines or a good book. This speaks volumes to me and is also a nicely composed image with good choice of black and white and shallow DOF.
ehem... I had to edit my comment several times to keep myself from saying things that my wife would kill me for...etc... photo does convey the feeling of letting go... relaxing... BW was a great choice for this. I can't quite decide whether it would look better with her face being in focus also... but I think I like this best.
Excellent work... letting go of some thoughts and stresses associated with a long day... relaxation is finally at hand. A glass of merlot... Enya on the CD player... hot water... the light from candles... a nice escape :)
I like this as a black and white. It works well. Some sepia toning here could also add some nice 'warmth' to the image to support the 'relaxation' theme as well... Excellent work :)
I like the image and the lighting a lot. the shallow DOF also adds to the idea that she is letting go of all her cares as she fades into the comfort of the bath. The candlestick behind her head is distrcating though.
