The color caught my eye first, reminding me of dreams & moonlight. This could be a 'postcard from the unconscious.' I hope you keep going w/this & play around with it some more. You could mask out the flower & play with creating some light on the BG just to see what happens.
Nice place to start, what a beautiful flower. I wonder if you tried a different overlay mode (like screen) and lowered the opacity ...... trying to keep the texture but lighten and soften it so the flower was the primary focus. I often mask my overlay and invert it, then just paint it back on with a soft brush.
