I set my little E900 on the sidewalk and snapped a frame of my motorbike. The yellow light is from the sodium bulbs the city uses in the street lights. I set the camera to manual and did a couple of test shots before I found the right shutter speed to work with the f2.8.
I was leaving on a day trip and waiting on the corner for my friend. shot at 5:28am.
Nice, sharp shot of the bike. What I've found with the sodium vapor lights is if I set my white balance to tungsten, it tones down the garish yellow color a bit, and it creates some really cool blues and purples in the sky. I did that with this one:
This is a delightful shot. The bike looks slightly extraterrestrial in the sodium light. One thing that strikes me, if you could have moved that bike to an area where just the sky was the backdrop instead of that shed, it would really look like something from outer space...
