A bit of selective blurring, perhaps? Very effective, having bits of him sharp while his "props" are doing a disappearing act.

It's interesting that the blur in this image is almost exactly the way we see things with our eyes, or at least I do. There is a small area of sharp mental focus, and the rest of the scene is not so clear. It keeps us from being flooded with too much imput.
