It has been rainy and overcast here for several days and I've been wanting to shoot my idea for impressionism (in the style of Berthe Morisot) but had to wait for the right clouds. When I left work it was raining and I was day dreaming about this very composition and by the time I got home the rain was gone and these wonderful clouds formed! I ran into the house and told Sarah to "get dressed in olden day clothes" I had an idea for a shoot....She said "Before supper dad?????". My response was "but the clouds are perfect!". So I grabbed the laundry out of the washer and hung them up while Sarah got dressed...It all came together perfectly! When I think of impressionism I think of capturing every day life with unique angles and soft tones. Personally I liked this better with softer tones, but I thought a more aggressive s-curve would be more dpc friendly.
Processing was pretty simple, I applied curves, did some dodge/burn, sharpened and applied a "fine brush hairs" filter. Resized to 640, sharpened again, saved for web.
Post Challenge:
Thanks everyone! I loved this challenge and am glad my photo went over well. I updated the processing above to include the final steps....
Here is the original straight from ACR...

Jason, I love the way you shot this from below the subject. I makes a wonderful composition. Thanks for sharing the original. It is helping me to see what can be done in PP. Congratulations on the very well deserved blue ribbon.
Jason! Ohmy. . .you truly are THE BOMB!! You have such versatility in your work! This is such an aMAZING photo! Congratulations on the blue ribbon of course -- but more than that -- just ooooozing with talent!
I sat this one out but went browsing (no voting) through the galleries during voting and saw your entry, fell in love with it, and fav'ed it. I am coming back now that I have some time to breath to tell you what I loved. You captured the 'feel' and compositional elements that I have seen in so many of the impressionism paintings that I teach to the children. I absolutely love that you chose an 'everyday activity' of times gone and had your daughter dress in old style clothes to add to a feel of a time in the 1800's or early 19th century. While the brush strokes were added later it REALLY adds to the impressionistic painting style BUT what really hits the ball out of the park is that you paid attention to the compositional elements, lighting, the play of light on the composition's elements and theme. For me, your photo painting really captured the moment and brought to mind that of Pierre-Auguste Renoir's In the Meadow, The Laundress, and Luncheon of the Boating Party Beautifullly done and captured. Congradulations on the blue!!!!
I think one of the main things about this is the traditional touch it has, plus the excellent angle. It's perfect and a well deserved blue ribbon winner. Congrats, Jason.
Congrats Jason on your first blue...and I am certainly sure, not your last! I love this image, DPL started with this challenge? Right?
Congrats again!

An awesome composition for the challenge. The whole filter effect thing wasn't my style in this challenge, but you used it to the nines. Excellently done.
Very traditional suject and composition. Well thought out. You didn't just take a picture and apply a filter but thought about the composition. A favourite.
I don't know if this is a PS filter or not, but the effect is beautiful. One of the rare instances where the effect actually compliments the image. Very impressive. 10
