Carrickfergus is the title of a song, no less. Not that I should expect dpc voters to run around exhaustively researching titles, but the last(?) verse:
For I'm drunk today, and I'm rarely sober,
A handsome rover from town to town,
Ah, but I am old now and my days are numbered,
Come all you young men and lay me down. is sort of the theme of the picture.
So the bokeh actually forms part of the picture rather than merely background. Hah. That's how clever I am.
Absolutely loved this shot when I saw it - what a face, full of character and placed so well in the environment. The only distraction is the red arm right next to his face, but the moment, that expression, was just right and waiting for the arm to be put down or changing the perspective to avoid it would have missed a great capture. Very nice use of bokeh to compliment the scene - it *is* the scene. :) This is a great shot and deserved better in the scoring.
I like this use of bokeh. While the common approach is to use flowers, I think people-bokeh is very effective when shooting people. Wonder if people-bokeh also works for flowers...
Would be nice to see just a little more light on this side of his face. Nice rim lighting, but he needs a main-light to make him more visible as the subject.
